Sam's Wines & Spirits Hosts California & Italian Wine Tastings Oct. 4 & 9 in Downers Grove & Lincoln Park
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 3, 2007 -- Sam's Wines & Spirits, the country's largest independent wine retailer, has separate California and Italian wine tasting events on the menu at its Downers Grove and Lincoln Park stores over the next week for area residents who want to expand their wine horizons.
The Sam's Downers Grove store will host a Mini California Night from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, October 4. Participants will have the opportunity to taste more than 100 wines from the largest and most prolific fine winemaking area in the U.S., with selections ranging from Dominus Napa Valley 2004 California Meritage and BV Georges de Latour 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon to Surh Luchtel Gary's Vineyard 2004 Pinot Noir. Admission is $30 at the door or $20 with advance registration at www.samswine.com or 630-705-9463. The store is located at 2010 Butterfield Rd. just west of I-355.
The Sam's Lincoln Park store will offer an Italian Night Grand Tasting from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, October 9. The event will feature more than 120 wines from Italy's prolific vineyards, from the kings of Piedmont to the Aglianicos of Basilicata, as well as Italian cheeses, cured meats and olive oils for fantastico pairings. Admission is $70 at the door or $50 with advance registration at www.samswine.com or 312-664-4394. The store is located at 1720 N. Marcey St. near the intersection of North and Clybourn.
The events are among hundreds of tastings, seminars and classes sponsored by Sam's every year. Special events range from grand tastings to appearances by the world's premier wine and spirits makers, while Sam's Academy classes span topics from the world's major wine grapes and winemaking regions to wine aging and pairing food and wine.
Founded in 1946, Sam's now has three stores in the Chicago area that stock more than 8,000 wines, 2,500 spirits and 1,200 beers as well as a popular online store at www.samswine.com. A fourth store is scheduled to open in the South Loop in November.
